Photos Featured on Windows 7

I am very excited to announce that six of my photos were chosen by the Windows 7 design team to be used as desktop backgrounds. Working with the team at Microsoft was a fantastic experience. From the Windows 7 blog:

“We had the good fortune to work with a talented local photographer named Will Austin, who has photographed all over the world on many subjects with an emphasis on architecture. Will’s photos provide a little bit of the local flavor of the Seattle area that we are proud to call home.”

And a quote from a Channel 10 video interview with Denise Trabona, Senior UX Lead at Microsoft:

“We are featuring the work of a local photographer named Will Austin… one of the reasons for featuring Will is that he actually specializes in architecture and we were finding architecture a little hard to fill out. As it turns out he is all-around a very good photographer so some of his work made it into the other sets as well…. You know what I love about his work in these sets is the light and energy… it is the theme of Windows 7.”

Each of the six images will be offered in a limited, numbered print edition. Please contact me if you are interested.

I would like to inquire where to go to find out details of the pictures, like building names and locations for where flowers were photographed, etc…, and to thank Mr. Austin for taking them in the first place. After visiting your website and then the windows link, I have only briefly looked at the available pictures of Mr. Austin, but I have to say I’m surprised they chose only 6. A fabulous eye for catching the daily and supposedly mundane of our every day lives and finding THE most unusual and beautiful way of showing them to us again in the most UN-mundane way possible! Forcing a rethinking and recalibrating of what can be rightfully considered beautiful, and oft times surprising us with a touch of awe at OUR world, the one we so selfishly ignore most days as we walk our daily paths. I look forward to seeing more of Mr. Austins work, and will have bookmarked his website for future use!! Thanks again, the pictures are truly remarkable.

With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My website has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement. Do you know any techniques to help reduce content from being ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.

  7. Will says:

    Hi Davina,

I haven’t had too much trouble with this. I only post low resolution images and try to watermark on sites such as flickr. I have had trouble with some clients sharing my photos without permission and sometimes those get out and are all over the net. I often send a copyright notice to the sites that use them. The content you create is your property and anyone who uses it should have permission first. I also like using the TinEye reverse image search, it is great!

    Thanks for asking,
